The land is quite flat towards Oxford which is where the local transmitter is. Most of Watlington can receive signals from the Oxford transmitter with a standard digital aerial. The part of the town where reception is difficult is around New Road where the trees near the church block signals. In parts of the town where reception is blocked by trees, the problem is that there isn’t another transmitter which works well in Watlington. This is because Watlington is tucked under the Chilterns which blocks signals from the Crystal Palace transmitter. So television signals are good unless there are trees blocking signals. The areas in which reception is difficult for this reason are Shirburn and the middle of Brightwell Baldwin. Moving further from the town and into the Chilterns reception is worse. Northend, Russells Water and Turville have some very poor reception areas.
