The ground is very flat in the area and pretty much all of the village can get reception from the most local transmitter which is in Oxford. An alternative transmitter is located in Mendip near Bristol. Although Shrivenham is quite a distance from both of these transmitters and therefore receives a weaker signal, the power of the digital TV signals was increased during the digital switchover in 2011 so this is no longer a problem. The Oxford transmitter and the Mendip transmitter are pretty much exactly in opposite directions from Shrivenham which is an advantage if one of the transmitters is blocked by trees or a building.
