WIFI IN THE GARDEN
Outdoor living is increasingly a part of our lifestyle with many houses now having family rooms opening out onto a patio and with bi-fold doors to open up the space. Although in the UK there is a limited season for spending leisure time outdoors, when sunny days do come, today’s outdoor leisure activities often now benefit from a good strong Wi-Fi service in your garden.
Domestic customers increasingly ask us if we can improve the Wi-Fi signal in their garden and commercial clients to their outdoor spaces. Apart from simply checking media on a smart phone, customers now like to be able to stream Spotify to their music players and even watch videos on their tablet in their garden. Listening to a podcast whilst gardening is another leisure combination which customers mention as a reason to improve the Wi-Fi in their garden.
Oxford Aerials have carried out lots of installations specifically to improve the Wi-Fi signal in our customers gardens. We keep in stock outdoor grade, weatherproof Wi-Fi transmitters and outdoor grade data cable. We can usually, carefully position a single Wireless Access Point and direct it so that it delivers good Wi-Fi signal right across your garden. By connecting an outdoor Wi-Fi WAP directly into your router using a Cat6 cable you can have Wi-Fi in your garden which is just as strong and robust as it is indoors.
The typical garden Wi-Fi installation will involve feeding a cable from your home router in your house to the outside of your house, then perhaps feeding it up behind a drainpipe and taking it into your loft, then passing it across the loft to the correct side of the house. We can then take the cable through to the outside of the house and then fit a Wireless Access Point transmitter at the same position so no further cabling is visible.
If we do have a need to take an internet cable to a patio area, say if the patio is away from the house, then we can usually hide the cable quite successfully through the garden. A thin black Cat6 cable can be clipped along the bottom of a fence or a wall or can be buried below a gravel path or even dropped into a thin cut in a lawn which can then simply be trodden back flat again. Our outdoor grade Cat6 cable won’t degrade in an outdoor environment or even if buried in mud.
Customers find that the benefit of having perfect Wi-Fi on their patio and on their lawn is well worth the cost of the installation.
